Heffner, June* - Poestenkill  
June F. Heffner POESTENKILL- June F. Heffner 76, of Plank Road died on Tuesday January 20, 2015 at her residence after a long illness. Born in Brunswick, June was the daughter of the late Homer L. and Cora H. Brod Bott and wife of the late Sidney Heffner. June grew up on the family farm on Garfield Road in Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of the area. June had been a beautician many years ago and had run her own shop in Troy. She had also been a home health care aide before being a full time homemaker. June was the mother of the late Cathy Heffner and sister of the late Helen Heffner and Norma Knauer. Survivors include her children Beth (Melvin Jr.) Swartz of Poestenkill, Megan (Richard) Schweitzer of Dalton, MA; Thore Heffner of Middlegrove: Aaron (Jacquelyn) Heffner of Poestenkill; Jason Heffner of Proper, TX; Wade (Jacquelyn) Heffner of No. Greenbush; Amy (Mark) Zwinge of Hoosick Falls: Thaddeus Heffner of Franklin, TN; and Johanna Heffner of Poestenkill. June was also survived by 15 grandchildren. Funeral Services were private. Interment Brookside Cemetery, Barbersville. Hollingsworth, Nancy* - Pittsford  
Nancy H. Hollingsworth PITTSFORD - Nancy H. Hollingsworth, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the age of 87. She spent the last several years of her life at the Cottage Grove Memory Care Residences through the Rochester Presbyterian Home due to dementia. Nancy was the wife of the late Jack W. Hollingsworth, retired Professor and Department Head at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, N.Y., and, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, N.Y. Nancy earned both a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Registered Nursing Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She taught nursing students while her husband earned his masters degrees and his Ph.D. Once his career was launched and they started a family, she chose, like many women of her generation, to stay home and take care of her family. Nancy and Jack had three children: Joel, Priscilla, and Seth. In addition to caring for her family, Nancy excelled at sewing, making suits for Priscilla when she graduated from law school, and at gardening. She was active in the R.I.T. Women’s Club, Gardening Club, and Adventure Club. Many of her close friends were made through her monthly participation from 1979 to 2012 in the R.I.T. Women’s Bookclub. On Jack’s retirement, he and Nancy enjoyed movies, dining out with friends, and concerts through the Eastman School of Music. Nancy was best known for her sweet, caring personality. From 1992 to 1994 she cared for her mother in her home, allowing her mother to pass away at home. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, and son’s Joel and Seth. Joel’s wife Kathy resides in Scotia, N.Y. Daughter Priscilla, and her husband Daryl, reside on the central coast of CA. Hickey Jr., John W.* - North Greenbush  
John W. Hickey, Jr. NORTH GREENBUSH - Jack was born January 3, 1937 in Troy and died January 18, 2015. He was the son of the late det. John W. (TPD) and Helen Delaney Hickey. He grew up on the east side, graduating from Sacred Heart School (1950), LaSalle Institute (1954), Niagara University (BS, 1959) and Syracuse University (MSW, 1963). During his younger years he was involved in youth activities, having been Assistant Director of the Troy CYO Center, Director of the Troy Boys Club East Side Extension Program, as well as a basketball and football official. Jack was the Assistant Director of Prospect Park from 1953-1959 where he worked for the Troy Recreation Department teaching swimming, advanced swimming and lifesaving. In 1959, he began his professional career working for the Rensselaer County Department of Public Welfare. In November, 1964, he entered service with the NYS Department of Social Services where he worked his way through the ranks to become Acting Deputy Commissioner and retiring in 1995 as Associate Commissioner. He was also employed as a Psychiatric Social Worker at the VA Hospital in Albany, a Family Case Worker at the Albany Family and Children Services, and an Instructor of Sociology and other Social Work courses at Russell Sage College. On July 9, 1960, Jack married the former Mary Janet Moore at St. Augustine’s Church in Troy. From this union, four children were born, John W. IV (Eileen) of Wynantskill, Matthew R. (Juli) of Orlando, FL, Denise Marie (Kevin) Haraughty of Glens Falls and Jennifer Anne (Charlie) Bruce of Latham. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Tessa Hickey, Miranda and Adele Haraughty, and Seamus, Sean and Delaney Carroll, as well as his sister, Helene E. Hickey of Marina Del Ray, California, and many cousins and friends. Jack was a member of the Country Club of Troy, Lake George Association, former President of the Bell Top School PTO, former member of the Parish Council of St. Michael’s Church in Troy, a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Eucharistic Minister and Lector of Chapel of the Assumption (Cleverdale, NY), Sacred Heart Church (Lake George), St. Michael’s (Troy) and St. Jude’s (Wynantskill) Churches, religious education teacher for St. Michael’s, as well as a former member of the Board of Directors and Past President of the Takundewide Homeowners Association, Cleverdale, NY. Jack and his wife, Janet, enjoyed spending summer months at their home in Lake George and winter months in Sanibel Island, FL. The family is grateful for the care and compassion offered by the nurses of the 5 South unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 am from the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Ave. at Parkview Court, Troy and at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s Church, Troy where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Michael’s Church, Williams Road, Troy, NY 12180 or to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.

Higgitt, Francis Xavier* - Knoxville  
Francis Xavier Higgitt KNOXVILLE, TN - Francis Xavier Higgitt, age 83, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2015 in Knoxville. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Air Force Veteran, and former resident of New York, he and his wife Dorothy lived here in east Tennessee for over 40 years and loved their Fountain City community. As the owner of Signs & Ads Specialties for many years, Mr. Higgitt was affectionately known by many as the “Yankee”. He volunteered at the then St. Mary’s Hospital and enjoyed being an usher at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy; daughters, Pamela Blakely and husband Hayne, Marla Bell and husband David; grandchildren, Alane Blakely Avila and husband Kevin, Grant Stephen Blakely, Andrew Francis Bell, Meredith Katherine Bell; great-granddaughter Ava Grace Bell; long-time friend Bob Wright; and many other extended family and special friends too numerous to mention. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Victor Salter for taking such wonderful care of him. A private family Interment will be held at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The Memorial Service is scheduled at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 31st at 1 pm, with Father John Dowling officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mr. Higgitt’s memory to Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Building Fund, or Tennova Healthcare Hospice Auxillary Fund.
