LAFAYETTE - Dawn L. Darling, 61, of LaFayette passed away quietly Friday, August 30, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
She will be sorely missed by her husband of 44 years, William B. Darling. who was her childhood sweetheart from the moment they met; four wonderful children, William Jr. (Jennifer) of North Glenn, Colo., Michael (Jennifer) of Troy, Melissa (Joseph) Wallis of LaFayette, Matthew L. of Canastota; four loving grandsons, Bradley, Cody, Lucas Wallis and Alexander Darling; two gorgeous granddaughters, Clara and Elizabeth Darling; her mother, Lena Pittsley; two sisters, Delphine Doupe and Donna Pittsley, both of LaFayette; two brothers, Dale Pittsley of Ogdensburg and Daniel Pittsley of Kirkville; a sister-in-law, Priscilla McAvoy of Henderson, Nev., who was as close as a sister could be; nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Dawn retired from UPS in 2007 after 18 years of service. She had also worked for Owl Wire and Cable in Canastota for 10 years.
Dawn loved her flowers and spent countless hours working in her garden, turning a patch of dirt into a beautiful flower bed in no time. Dawn gladly shared her plants with anyone, friend or stranger, often swapping flowering plants with others.
She adored swimming with all of her "Grandbabies" as she referred to them regardless of their age, reading to them all and helping them with their homework, always looking forward to "Grandparent's Day" celebrations at their respective elementary schools. Dawn will be missed greatly however her life will be celebrated for generations to come.
Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette, NY 13084. Calling hours are from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
