Florence Graham

Florence (Dolly) Vaughn Graham Troy - Florence (Dolly) Vaughn Graham, 91 passed away on June 9, 2013. Dolly was born in Troy, NY on March 30, 1922, the fourth daughter of the late George Vaughn and Catherine Larkin Vaughn. Dolly grew up in South Troy and was quite proud of her roots and her Irish heritage. Dolly attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1939. During World War II, Dolly was the first woman to work for the Rationing Board in Troy. She worked a variety of other jobs, including Green's Department Store, Montgomery Ward and the New York State Department of Labor. Dolly married Harold H. Graham on April 11, 1948 and shared 44 loving years until Harold's death in 1992. Dolly moved to Watervliet soon after marriage and resided in the Port Schuyler section for over 50 years. Dolly was a phenomenal wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed many interests including reading, traveling, rummage sales, antiques, the Civil War, Judge Judy and Jeopardy. We will miss her delectable apple pie, bread pudding, chicken casserole and potato pancakes. Family trips to Cape Cod, Niagara Falls, Cooperstown, Alexandria Bay and many Civil War battle sites were enjoyed by all. Dolly and Harold shared many wonderful trips to: Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hawaii, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Nova Scotia. Dolly was proud to say she visited 47 of the 50 states, missing only Alaska, Kansas and North Dakota. Dolly was a communicant of the former St. Brigid's Church in Watervliet prior to its closing. She then rejoined her beloved St. Joseph's Church in South Troy. Dolly was content when surrounded by her family. She is survived by her three loving children: Gary W. Graham and his wife Jennifer; Gregory B. Graham; and Nancy Graham Moreland and her husband William; by two cherished granddaughters: Devon B. Graham, and Olivia M. Bootier and her fiancé Dave Bishop. Dolly is also survived by many special nieces and nephews including Kathy Underwood, Lori Skiff, Judy Farrell, Kris White, Toni Benson and Frank Fox. Dolly was fortunate to have several caring neighbors including Linda and Mary Lou Cole, and Margaret Kenyon. Dolly was predeceased by her parents, George and Catherine; her husband Harold; her sisters Katherine Brown, Loretta Fox, Frances Haun, Lillian Cannon and George Vaughn Jr. Dolly lived her life for her family and will be greatly missed by all. Services for Dolly will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:30am at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St, Troy and at 12 noon at St. Joseph's Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home 9-11:30am Thursday.
