Helen I. Burgess

Helen I. Burgess WATERFORD - Helen I. Burgess, 80, formerly of Waterford died Monday November 18, 2013 at Good Samaritan Health Center. Born in Rochester she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Flossie Mae Covenhoven Chase. She was a graduate of Albany High School and SUNY Albany. Helen was employed for 18 years by the NYS Department of Labor and retired in 1997. Prior she had been employed by the County of Saratoga, NY Central Railroad and NY Telephone Co. Helen also was a veteran of the US Navy. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church Altar Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Halfmoon, Saratoga County Co-operative Extension, was a 4H Leader and a founding member of the Friends of the Waterford Public Library. Helen was widow of Harry J. Burgess Sr. who died in 1986. She is survived by her children, Theresa Heilsberg (George) of Ravena, Laurie Rafferty (Michael) of Buskirk, Harry Burgess Jr. (Heather) of Bath NH and Joseph Burgess (Deborah) of Walpole, MA. She is predeceased by her brother Paul Chase. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be at noon at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 pm.
