John Edward Perry

John Edward Perry Sr. MILFORD, DE - John Edward Perry Sr. of Milford Delaware, and previously from Green Island, NY died Tuesday, April 1, 2013 at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family. He was a proud son of the late Lillian and James Perry. Born and raised in Greenwich New York, John worked on his family's farm until enlisting in the US Marines in December 1941.Upon completion of Boot Camp; he stayed and became a marksmanship instructor. In late 1942, he was assigned to the 22nd Marines. During his first combat action, he received his first of three Purple Hearts. After returning from the rear, he was reassigned to the 6th Marine Division, 6th pioneer Battalion. He was proud to be with the only Marine Division that was formed in a foreign country, and was awarded the other two purple hearts and the Bronze Medal for meritorious service in the Okinawa Campaign. He went on to work as a mechanic where he ran his J&P Auto body shop in Cohoes. John was also an avid stock car driver tearing up the dirt tracks in New York and Vermont. John was active in the Marine Corps League in Troy, holding detachment positions at local, state and national level. John was the loving husband of nearly 42 years of Joan (Wagner) Perry previously deceased. He is the devoted father of Mary (Skiba) John (Jr) Christopher and David. He is the proud grandfather of Jeremy, Jordan and Jaiden Skiba, Stephen and Katie Chicoine and Cpl. John Perry the third, Amanda (MacDonald), McKenzie, Christopher (Jr) and Crystal Perry, PFC Katrina, David (Jr) Perry and PFC Shelby (Sasz) . Also survived by his beloved youngest sister, Caroline (Hartwell). He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Millie Payne; and brothers, Albert, David, James and Herbert. A Military Burial and service will be celebrated on April 8, 2013 at 1:00PM at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
