Ralph J. Dillon COHOES – Ralph J. Dillon, 97, of Cohoes, departed this life on July 12, 2013 to be reunited with Mary, the love of his life and wife of 72 years. He was born in Cohoes on December 14, 1915, the son of the late William S. and Lillian (Lynch) Dillon. Ralph attended St. Agnes' School and was a graduate of Cohoes High School. Ralph proudly served in the US Army
during World War II
, seeing action in the European Theater, for which he was awarded two Bronze Stars
. His campaigns included the Battle of the Bulge. A former prisoner of war, Ralph remained active in the military in the New York National Guard until 1975, retiring with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. His employment began with the Cohoes Power & Light Company and then its successor, Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. Following the war, he had a long career with the State of New York, retiring in 1970. He was then employed as a driver for the Shenendehowa Central School District. In addition to his wife, Mary, Ralph was also predeceased by his brother, William. Affectionately known as “Pa”, he is survived by his sister, Mae Butler of Atlanta, Georgia; his two children, Brian (Darryl) Dillon of Clifton Park, and Mary Dillon of Niskayuna; six beloved grandchildren, Sheila (Nate) Hagstrom, Brian Dillon, Amy Dillon, Shannon Dillon, Brianna Dillon and Rebecca Jenkins; and three great grandchildren, Kelsea, Sara and Mairi Hagstrom. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 4:00PM to 5:00PM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road Latham, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 5:00PM for those wishing to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Capital Fund, the Wounded Warrior Project (donation form at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org
), or another veteran's organization of choice. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
