Rose McDonald

Rose Zandri McDonald COHOES - Rose McDonald (Zandri), 76, lost her courageous battle with Parkinson's disease on June 11, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and in the gentle arms of the staff from the Eddy Village Green, House 7. She was born in Cohoes and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Pyskadlo Zandri. Rose was a life long Cohoes resident and attended the Cohoes Schools. She was a very active, life long communicant of St. Michael's Parish in Cohoes, a member of the Ladies Rosary Society, and assisted with many fund raisers, including the Church Bazaars, Ladies Rosary Penny Socials, and Bingo. Rose was an officer for many years and handled the Bingo books as long as she was able. She worked two jobs most of her life as a bookkeeper, secretary and manager. Rose had a strong work ethic, great sense of humor, enjoyed making apple pies, golumpkis and homemade candy. She believed that family always came first. Rose was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend. She will be greatly missed by those lucky enough to have known her. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Audra Lynn McDonald, Audra's partner, Danielle A. Retzlaff , her adored grandson, Simon Retzlaff all of Cohoes, her four legged granddaughters, Cheyenne Rose and Dakota Rose as well as two miniature African frogs; her sister, Genevieve “Gen” Callanan and her husband Robert, “Bink”, and their daughter Cindy Surprenant, (Will), her sister, Marcia Sebastian (the late Raymond) and their children, Michael Sebastian (Brian), and Stacey Murley (Brian), brother Guerino “Gary” Zandri. Rose is also survived by many dear great nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her nephew, Robert Callanan, Jr. Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd 1054 Vliet Blvd Cohoes, Saturday morning at 8:30. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Michael's Church at 9:00. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Waterford. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 pm. Those wishing to remember Rose in a special way may make contributions in her memory to the Eddy Village Green, 421 Columbia St Cohoes, NY 12047 or to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd, Albany NY 12205.
