Thomas F. Schillinger

Thomas F. Schillinger East Greenbush - Thomas F. Schillinger, 89, of Luther Road died Monday, July 21, 2014, at Evergreen Commons. Born and raised in Watervliet, he was son of the late Joseph Schillinger and Mary R. Hayes Schillinger and husband of the late Doris Tabor Schillinger. He had resided in the Troy area most of his life and wintered in Florida from 1975-1990 and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. Mr. Schillinger was owner and operator of Schillinger Blacktop Service, Inc. in Troy for many years and also the owner and operator of the Terminal Tavern in Troy. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Wynantskill and the Troy Lodge of Elks. He loved talking about his Army days and recently participated in the October 2013 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. as a World War II veteran. Tom loved his dog, Kolby, his garden, golf with wife, Doris and his bowling league. He also enjoyed fishing on his boat with wife, in Clearwater, Florida. Since becoming a resident at Evergreen Commons, he enjoyed their summer concerts, clambake and courtyard family visits eating his maple walnut sundae’s and other sweets. He especially loved his “yellow” truck. Survivors include his children, Diane (Leonard Kershaw) Wagner, Bolton Landing, Thomas F. (Nina) Schillinger Jr., Delmar and Mary (Gary) Gustin, Troy; three sisters, Sr. Rose Miriam Schillinger CSJ, St. Joseph’s Provincial House in Latham, Marion (Ben) Stangler, Pensacola, FL and Marge (Bill) Schramek, Lakeland, FL; his grandchildren, Matthew, Ian, Stephanie, Gary Jr. and Emily; a great grandson, Ryan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Nan Inglis and two brothers, James and Joseph Schillinger. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday from 5-7PM. Funeral service will be held Friday at 8AM at the Sacred Heart Church Pawling Avenue Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Watervliet.
