Warren E. Bonesteel WYNANTSKILL – Warren Earl Bonesteel, age 90, beloved husband of 62 years of Marion F. Ruffinen Bonesteel, died on January 29, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Brunswick, he is the son of Alvah and Inez Bornt Bonesteel. He attended school in Brunswick. Mr. Bonesteel was a veteran
of the United States Navy
during World War II
having served on the aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid. For service during World War II, Mr. Bonesteel was awarded 6 Bronze Stars
, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and a Letter of Commendation for service on the USS Intrepid. For several years, he was a self employed carpenter before joining the Carpenters Union, Local 291 out of Troy. He worked for the maintenance department at Shaker High School retiring 28 years ago. He was a member of the Wynantskill Volunteer Fire Department serving with the Fire Police, an active volunteer with the Killman Drum and Bugle Corps based out of the fire department, a member of the former Geerholt-Rehm VFW in North Greenbush, the Wynantskill American Legion #1489 and a former trustee of the Evergreen Cemetery Board in Wynantskill. He was an active Citizens Ban Operator with the handle, ‘Boney'. The family would like to thank the staff of the 6th floor at Samaritan Hospital and the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for the great care that was shown to Warren. Survivors in addition to his wife include his sons, David (Joanne) Bonesteel of Eagle Mills, Robert (Nancy) Bonesteel of Rensselaer, Larry Bonesteel of Wynantskill, Dennis (Colleen Carroll) Bonesteel of Brunswick and Leo (Frances Fernandez) Bonesteel of Poestenkill, his grandchildren, Alyssa Bonesteel of Brunswick, Gary Paul (Allison) Bonesteel of Brooklyn, Jason Bonesteel of Troy and Olivia Bonesteel of Poestenkill. He is predeceased by 2 sisters, Clara Bonesteel and Permela Curran and 4 brothers, Marvin, Claude, Willard and Raymond Bonesteel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be from Thomas S. Connolly Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Rd., Wynantskill on Friday at 8:45 A.M and at 9:30 A.M. from St. Jude the Apostle Church. Wynantskill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wynantskill. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M.
