Charles Treece Obituary

Charles M. Treece Troy - Charles M. Treece, 92, formerly of M Street in Lansingburgh, beloved husband of the late Charlotte LaRode Treece, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush. Born and educated in Jefferson City, TN, he was the son of the late John Henry and Lyda Veola Treece. Mr. Treece was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars as well as the Good Conduct Medal. Charles, belonging to a family of 11, came to Troy in 1946 in search of employment. He followed a family tradition by becoming a carpenter and was a member of Carpenter's Union Local #370. Mr. Treece was one of the original founders of the Rod & Gun Club and the African American Veteran's Club of Troy, was a longtime member of the Free & Accepted Mason's and of the Oakwood Avenue Presbyterian Church in Troy. Charles, well know by “Charlie”, is survived by his devoted children, Alexander E. (Rosetta) Treece, Sr. of Newtown, PA, Eric L. Treece of Troy, Jeanetteann M. (Robert) Diggs of Chandler, AZ and Madeline L. Treece of Troy, three local nephews, U.S. Magistrate Judge Randolph F. Treece of Albany, Steve Treece and Fredrick Treece both of Troy, grandfather of Alexander, Treece, Jr., Ronald Treece, Jason M. (Michaela) Diggs, Marcus A. and Troy Treece, Tyrone C. (Carla Sorrell) Treece, Colette M. Washington and Asia M. Treece, also survived by four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews from out of town, two local great nephews; Dean and Duane Mills, who were predeceased by their mother Beverly Mills and also survived by a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his 8 siblings. Funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh, where Rev. Alfred O. Siegel, Pastor, Oakwood Presbyterian Church in Troy, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, Charles desired for memorial contributions to be made to benefit the Unity House of Troy, Inc. 33 Second Street Troy, New York 12180, in memory of Charles M. Treece. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue, Troy, New York 12182. (518) 235-0952.
