Catherine D. Gatzendorfer SPEIGLETOWN - Catherine D. “Kay” Gatzendorfer, 74 of Speigletown died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday April 7, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after an illness. She was born in Troy, the daughter of the late James F. and Dorothy Canfield Lyons. She was a graduate of Troy High School and Hudson Valley Community College where she earned her Registered nursing degree. Kay was a self made woman who had to leave high school in her senior year due to illness. Upon her health improving, Kay received her GED, met the love of her life and married Bill Gatzendorfer on Oct. 10, 1959. They started their family and then Kay went to the Albany Medical Center Hospital, earning her LPN degree in nursing in 1967. Kay continued her nursing studies and graduated in 1972 from Hudson Valley Community College as a registered nurse. It was always her ambition to be a nurse but never thought it would happen. With her determination and commitment, Kay achieved her goal. She started working as a nurse at the original Leonard Hospital, transferring to the new location where she served a combined 20 years in the ICU/CCU units. She followed this by working a year for the American Red Cross, and then 10 years with Seton Home Care. She was a member of the St. Augustine's Mothers Club and was an avid bowler at the Alpha Bowling Lanes. She was a member of a group of enthusiasts who were challenged at Curves in Waterford. Kay had a great love for sports, watching the Boston Red Sox and her NY Giants. What brought special joy to her though was watching her grandchildren excel in their own sporting events. She was a faithful communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh. She is the beloved wife of William “Bill” Gatzendorfer; the devoted mother of JoAnn Gatzendorfer Bolduc of Liverpool, NY and William (Kathleen) Gatzendorfer of Southbury, CT; cherished and much loved grandmother of Daniel and Ellyn Bolduc of Liverpool, NY and Kristin, Carl and Victoria Gatzendorfer of Southbury, CT; dear sister of the late James T. Lyons; also survived by several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. Funeral will be held at Thursday at 8:45 am from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. Corner of 115th Street and 4th Avenue, Lansingburgh thence to St. Augustine's Church where at 9:30 the mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the of NYS, 155 Washington Ave, Suite 210, Albany, NY 12210 or the , P.O. Box 13535, Albany, NY 12212. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ferraro and the nursing staff at NYOH in Latham and the staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy for the wonderful care given to Kay during her illness. Interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J.
