Frederick C. “Otto” Baumback BRUNSWICK - Frederick C. “Otto” Baumback, born February 4, 1923, died April 2, 2014 at Albany Medical Center. He was the son of the late Harry L. Baumback and Alice Mason Baumback, the loving husband for 63 years of Rosa Hagopian Baumback, the devoted father of Rev. Alan R. Baumback, the late Paul K. Baumback, and Nancy D. Baumback Goddard, the proud Papa of David and Jonathan Goddard and Matthew Baumback, and the brother of the late Clifford Baumback and Helen McCormack. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Fred was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1942. He was an army veteran of World War II, having served at Anderes Central Europe, Normandy, and the Rhineland. He received the European, African Medal, Eastern Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Fred worked at G.E. in Schenectady for 36 ½ years. Fred was active in many community organizations. He was a member of Christ Church, United Methodist, and a member of Apollo-King Solomon Masonic #13 FNM for 65 years where he was Chairperson of the Widows’ Program. He was a 32o mason and a member of Troy Delta Bodies, Albany Sovereign Consistory AASR, the Oriental Shrine Temple, the Patrol Unit, the Troy Conference Builders’ Club, the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary, the Edward C. Pickens Troy High School Induction Committee, the G.E. Quarter Century Club, and the Veterans of Lansingburgh. Fred volunteered at Samaritan Hospital since 1983, with over 5,000 hours of community service. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Troy Boys and Girls Club, former president of Troy Shriners Club, former trustee of Masonic Hall Association, former trustee of Elmwood Hill Cemetery, former chairperson of Troy Boys and Girls Club Old Timers Association, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Methodist Farm Association. Fred was a nominated member of the Hall of Fame of the Troy Boys and Girls Club, received the Old Timers Association Man of the Year Award and the Distinguished Service Award. He received the Bronze Keystone Award for the Northeastern New York Council of the Boys and Girls Club. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Community Service Award from the local chapter of AARP #3991. He received from the Grand Lodge of New York the Millennium Military Service Award and the Dedicated Meritorious Service Award of Grand Lodge Free Accepted Masons of the State of New York. Fred also received the Certificate of Appreciation from the Methodist Sunday School Association. Fred received a plaque from the Troy Boys and Girls Club in honor and deep appreciation of faithful, devoted, and valuable service to the Old Timers Association in 1999. In Fred’s words, “Flowers soon fade away so please, in lieu of flowers, I request memorial gifts to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital in care of Oriental Temple, 39 Brunswick Road, Troy, NY 12180 or the Troy Boys and Girls Club, 1700 Seventh Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 to help with their work.” The greatest gift our dad gave us was our faith in God, our pride in ourselves, our sense of family, and the knowledge that his love for us was unconditional and ever growing. We celebrate his life and the joy his presence gave us. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Church United Methodist, 35 State Street, Troy, NY 12180. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Apollo King Solomon’s Primitive Lodge #13 – F&AM will gather at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home to offer their ritual service. Interment with military honors will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Funeral arrangments have been entrusted by the family to the John J.
