Joyce Larson Scanlon HAMDEN, CT - Joyce Larson Scanlon, 92, of Hamden, Connecticut died at Connecticut hospice on March 20, 2014. Born in Hollandale Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Clifford Larson and Inez Schneider Larson of Monroe and Milwaukee. She grew up in Milwaukee and Wauwatosa and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, as well as doing graduate study at the University of Michigan and State University of New York. She was a teacher her entire working life, starting in Michigan and continuing in Hawaii, Virginia and finally Troy New York, where she taught for 22 years in the Tamarac Elementary School. She had fond memories of all the wonderful boys and girls she taught over her 50 year teaching career. She is survived by sons Brian Scanlon of Felton, California and Patrick Scanlon of Rochester, New York, and daughters Mary Scanlon and Katie Bauer, both of Hamden, Connecticut, as well as six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her beloved hound dog Annie. She was preceded in death by her son Bruce Scanlon, and brothers Clifford and Craig Larson. Funeral services will be private. Friends who wish may send a donation to the or the Humane Society of the United States in lieu of flowers.
