Patrick R. Watson GREEN ISLAND - Patrick R. “Dick” Watson, 84, a long time Green Island resident, Passed away peacefully on Saturday August 24, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital following a short illness. Born on August 20, 1929 in Troy, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Catherine V. Daly Watson and the beloved husband of 57 years to Rosemary DeCerce Watson. Following high school, Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force durring the Korean War era and upon his return home embarked on a career with the A & P Tea Co. leaving after 20 years going to Siena College where he was employed in maintenance and security retireing after 25 years. He was a member of various bowling clubs as well as the disabled American Veterans. Survivors in addition to his loving wife include his children Anne Marie and Craig Strizzi, Richard and Linda Watson, Kevin and Tamara Watson, Donald F. Watson, MaryBeth and William Szostak, John A. Watson, and Kathleen and Brent Mason. He was the proud grandfather of Ricky Watson, Beth Szostak, Heather Watson, Jessica Strizzi, Laura Strizzi, and Christina Szostak. He was predeceased by his grandson Joshua Szostak, and his brothers Joseph, John, and Donald Watson. Also survived by his brother in-laws and sister in-laws John and Helen DeCerce and Robert and Donna DeCerce as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 8:45 am from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 3rd St. Troy and at 9:30 am in St. Joseph's Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY., Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Dick's memory may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer Co. 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144 or to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204 or to a Charity of ones choice.
