Angelo James Tangora Obituary
Angelo James Tangora DELMAR- Angelo James Tangora of Niskayuna formerly of Delmar, died peacefully on November 12, 2012 after a courageous battle with two forms of cancer. Born June 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Philip and Lena (Tornatore) Tangora. Angelo attended Albany schools. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1951-1955 aboard the USS Charles R Ware. He was in 29 ports of call during his service and served in the Korean War. After his service he was a Master Carpenter with Local #370 Carpenters Union for 50 years. Angelo was proud of all of his work, which included, Berkshire Bridge, construction of the South Mall in Albany, renovations to the Governor's Mansion, Times Union Center, Norstar Bank, Colonie Center, in addition to many other Capital Region projects. He made lifetime friends at the Carpenters' Union that he maintained for over 50 years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Delmar and most recently St. Clare's Parish in Colonie. Angelo was a loving and generous man who treasured time with his family and friends. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and Michael's homemade pasta. He was a devoted caretaker of his late wife, Lucy. He had a quick wit and an amazing sense of humor that he never lost. Golfing was his greatest passion, evidence by achieving three holes-in-one. He also enjoyed skiing, hunting, watching New York Yankees baseball, and New York Giants football. In addition to his parents, Angelo was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years Lucy (Lombardi) Tangora. He is survived by his devoted companion Helen M. Hayes of Niskayuna, his dedicated son Michael and daughter-in-law Heather (Mathusa) Tangora, Linda, Karen and Patrick and his adored grandchildren Brittany Elizabeth and Parker Michaelangelo Tangora of Delmar, his siblings Jane (Tom) Fox and John (Diane) Tangora of Delmar, as well as Aunt Mary Strazza and Aunt Theresa Tornatore, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. At Angelo's request there will be no calling hours. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, November 16, 2012 from 9:30am to 10:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar prior to the Mass. A Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30am and burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont, NY. The family would like to extend a warm thank you to all that helped care for Angelo including the kind nurses and staff at Stratton VA hospital in Albany and Schenectady Community Hospice especially Maureen, Sue, Jill, Lisa and Tracy.
