Barbara VanDerwerken Obituary
Barbara J. VanDerwerken WATERFORD - Barbara J. VanDerwerken, 76, of Mercer St. died Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Hudson Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany. Born and educated in Troy she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Helen Bryant Redden. Barbara was employed for 23 years at Albany International Corp in Menands and retired in 1992 as Production Control Manager. Prior to that she had been employed at the US Arsenal in Watervliet and Montgomery Ward's in Menands. She was a volunteer at the Waterford Visitors Center and a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church. She also was a member of the Marine Corps League Women's Auxiliary. She is the wife of Donald VanDerwerken and mother of Robert E. Knowles (Janice) of Berne and Sharen M. Zwack (Allen) of Waterford. She was the sister of Robert Redden (Lucy) of West Sand Lake, Helen Shumaker (Richard) of Westchester, PA, Donald Redden of Schenectady, the late Edwin, Eugene and Richard Redden, Thomas Malcolm and Ruth Bonkowski. Also surviving are her grandchildren Tyler Zwack (Hanna Bush) of Troy and Dylan Zwack of Waterford as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery.
