Elizabeth Cummings WATERFORD - Elizabeth Ann Doocey Cummings, 88, passed away peacefully Apr. 6, 2014 at Rosewood Gardens following a brief illness, with her family at her side. Betty grew up in South Troy, and graduated from St. Joseph’s Elementary School in 1939, and Catholic Central High School in 1943. She then worked for the NYS Dept. of Labor, which is where she met her future husband, William Cummings. They were married in the fall of 1955, and moved to Waterford, where Betty resided for the rest of her life. After spending a brief period as a stay-at-home mother, Betty re-entered the workforce, and was employed at the J.M. Fields store in Lansingburgh as a supervisor. She then resumed her career as an administrative assistant, working for Hoffman Engineers and Surveyors, Cluett & Peabody Co., Trego and Paul insurance agency, and Northeast Controls Co. in Clifton Park. She retired from there in 1987, after approximately 15 years of service with them. Betty was a long time communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford, and was active in the parish Renew group. Betty enjoyed Bowling, and was active in local leagues for many years along with her husband, and later spent many a Saturday and Sunday transporting her son to his junior league at Hilltop Bowl, and to his junior traveling league matches at various area centers. She enjoyed roller skating, gardening, cooking, and day trips with her daughter Kathleen. She also was known for her kindness to cats as she took in and cared for many of them over the years. She was predeceased by her parents John and Rose Doocey, her husband William, an infant son John, and three sisters-in-law and their husbands. She is survived by a son, William Jr. and a daughter, Kathleen, both of whom reside in Waterford, as well as cousins Anne Marie and Robert Shake, Elizabeth Doocey, and Leo Hart, all of Troy, NY, and Dominick Nunziato of Ravena, NY as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
