Grace Collins AVERILL PARK – Grace L. McDermott Collins, daughter of the late Martin and Grace (Orth) McDermott, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 16, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born and educated in Green Island, Mrs. Collins was a resident of Brunswick for many years before moving to Averill Park. She was employed by Cluett Peabody & Co. in Troy before her marriage, and was a member of St. Paul's Women's Association and the Rensselaer County Senior Citizens. She married the late Richard M. Collins on June 29, 1946 at St Joseph's Church in Green Island, and spent 56 years by his side until his passing in November of 2002. Following their marriage, she devoted the rest of her life to raising and caring for her large family, and took great pleasure in their company. She was the proud mother of Richard (Sophie) Collins of Watervliet, Thomas (Judy) Collins of Topeka, KS, Lynn (Michael) Hill of Averill Park, Kevin (Patsy) Collins of Brunswick, Nancy (Michael) Carey of Wynantskill and Brian (Ellen) Collins of Averill Park, Adored grandmother of Krista, Michael, Stephen, Cassandra, Christina, Candace, Martin, Jonathan, Heather, Brandon, Kevin, Garrett, Moira, Kate, Michael, Keith, Kasie, Briana and great-grandmother to 19. She was the sister of the late John J. (late Loretta) McDermott and Sr. Mary Martin McDermott, PBVM, and the aunt of the late Jack and Janet McDermott. The family would like to give special thanks to “Bernie”, Grace's faithful caregiver for the last two years. Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy on Sunday from 3-6 pm. The funeral mass will be Monday at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. Interment will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers and due to cemetery restrictions, contributions can be made to Eddy Heritage House, 2920 Upper Tibbits Avenue, Troy, NY 12180, Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144, or St. Colman's Home, 11 Haswell Road, Watervliet, NY 12189 in memory of Grace L. Collins.
