Helen Mae Hartley GREEN ISLAND – Helen Mae McGrath McGivern Hartley, 95, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 after a long illness. She was wife of the late Francis McGivern and the late Joseph Hartley. Born in Troy, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Spillane McGrath, she resided in Green Island most of her lifetime. Helen was a homemaker and had been employed by the former Leonard Hospital in Troy as housekeeping assistant for 15 years, retiring in the early 80's. She had been a communicant of the former St. Joseph's Church in Green Island and had been a member of the Altar-Rosary Society, the St. Joseph's Mothers Club and the Green Island Columbiettes. She is the mother of Thomas (Ruth) McGivern of Wynantskill, Kenneth (Carol) McGivern of Hebron, Ronald (Rita) McGivern of Mayfield, Donald (Barbara) McGivern of Latham and the late Francis McGivern; stepmother of Nancy Heffern, John, Michael and Richard Hartley and the late Patricia Finning; sister of the late Margaret Gregor, Thomas and John McGrath; also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Saturday at 5 p.m. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region, 101 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 in memory of Helen.
