Jim became a shop supervisor and manager at General Electric in Schenectady, New York, where he retired in 1980 after 38 years of service to spend quiet times at home with his family and friends. He also worked after retiring from GE at Bryce Real Estate for several years. A devoted husband and father, he was an inspiration to his children, yet a humble man whose actions and deeds reflected his core beliefs that the three most important things in life to be family; God; and country. A man of diverse interests, he was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football, had a voracious appetite for reading, politics, loved to keep up with current events, enjoyed poetry, world and U.S. history, and was also a music lover. Deeply loved, he will be sorely missed by all those whose lives and hearts he touched in his 93 years on earth. Jim is survived by his brother Thomas McGuirk and his wife Madeleine of Troy, and his much-loved seven children and their spouses to include Peter McGuirk and Sandy Beberwyk, Brian, Martha, Daniel and Bridget McGuirk, all of Brunswick, Sheila Reilly of Stuart, Florida and James McGuirk and his wife Debra of Chesapeake, Virginia, He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessie, Michael and Shauna Reilly, and James McGuirk Jr. He was very proud of and loved each of his 4 grandchildren, and also of his 4 great-grandchildren.
