John J. Basle Obituary
John J. Basle WATERFORD - John J. Basle, 89, formerly of Saratoga Ave. died Thursday November 15, 2012 at Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham. Born in Watervliet he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Antoinette Basle and was a graduate of Watervliet High School and had attended the University of Texas. Jack was retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island where he had been employed for 35 years and was a member of the United Autoworkers Union. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II. While a service man he was a boxer and held the Middle Weight Crown in the US Army. He also played basketball for a number of teams including the Troy Berk-Ray Team which was part of the league that later became the Continental Basketball League. He also coached and played basketball for the Ford Motor Co. Team. He was the husband of the late Louise Zacarola Basle who died in 1990. He is father of John R. Basle and Gary A. Basle both of Waterford and is brother of the late Joseph, Frank and Louis Basle, Rose Elson, Mary Watson and Millie Thierbecker. Also surviving are his grandchildren Marisa and Jonna Basle, his caregiver and future daughter in law Christie Secor as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Residence 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane in Latham. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call Our Lady of Hope Residence on Sunday prior to the Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Those who wish may make contributions to Our Lady of Hope Residence in care of the Philip J.
