Joseph F. Schabhetl TROY - Joseph F. Schabhetl, 93, of Country Way died Thursday November 7, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Troy he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Goerold Schabhetl. Joe had been employed at the Troy Fire Department for 30 years and retired in 1977 as a Captain. From 1977 until 1983 he was employed at R.P.I. He was a veteran of the US Army-Air Force and served during World War II in the European Theater. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Unit Badge with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a former member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks. His enjoyments included making remote control model airplanes, square dancing with his wife and playing cards with his friends. He is the husband of the late Virginia Smith Schabhetl who died in 2001, father of Joseph A. Schabhetl of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Robert P. Schabhetl (Vivian) of Troy. He was the brother of the late Margaret Kabele. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Joseph A., Lynne and Stephanie Schabhetl, Mildred Collett, James, Douglas, Daniel, David, Jeffrey Gipe, Sheryl Coumbes, and JoAnne Mele, his step grandchildren, Derek and Deanna Seddon as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
