Joseph F. Smith, Jr. TROY – Joseph F. Smith, Jr., 63, of Ninth Street passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. He passed quietly in the care of his fiancée Shirley Sousis and at the home of his best friend William Crandall. He was born in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Smith, Sr. and Marguerite MacGregor Smith. Raised and educated in Troy, he was a graduate of Troy High School. Joe was a United States Marine veteran serving from 1970 to 1972. He was a self-employed contractor in the area for many years. Survivors in addition to his fiancée Shirley and best friend William, include two sons Jamie Smith of WA, Raymond Smith (Rebecca) of Troy, four grandchildren Gabrielle Smith, Isabella Smith, Mason Smith, Gavin Smith, his brother Dennis Smith (Barbara Reeley) of Wynantskill, his sister Charmaine Kelley of Troy and former wife Theresa Smith of Watervliet. Joe was predeceased by his infant son Scott Smith and brother Wayne Rodney Smith. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh on Saturday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. Interment will be at Elmwood Hill Cemetery.
