Marlene Herbert ST. GEORGE, UT - Catherine Marlene Herbert (nee Brown),78, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at Dixie Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah from complications caused by arterial sclerosis. Members of her family were by her side. She was the daughter of the late Ralph K. Brown and Catherine V. Brown of Troy and was married for 49 years to the late George W. Herbert, Jr., also from Troy. Born in Troy's Leonard Hospital, she went on to become a Register Nurse and worked for more than 25 years in the hospital where she was born. She was a long time parishioner of St. Augustine's and St. Patrick's Churches in Troy, and was a graduate of St Augustine's School, Catholic Central High School, and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Amsterdam, NY. Following her retirement she worked for several years as a volunteer nurse for the National Park Service at Yellowstone National Park and Cape Canaveral National Seashore. For the past several years she had been living in Hurricane, Utah near the entrance to Zion National Park. She and her late husband traveled extensively throughout the US in their RV during the summers and after their retirement. She was a devout Catholic who had the unique distinction of having attended Catholic mass in all 50 states of the United States. She is survived by her sisters Judith Patrick of Charlotte, NC and Karen O'Donnell of Watervliet, NY; her brothers Kenneth Brown of Castleton, NY and Richard Brown of Palm Coast, FL; her children Charles Herbert of Philadelphia, PA, Kevin Herbert of Hurricane, UT, Cathy Herbert of Colorado Springs, CO, Susan Herbert of Neptune Beach, FL, and Kristen Herbert of Hurricane, UT; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Paul's Catholic Center in Hurricane, UT on Tuesday, April, 9, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA, alongside her husband.
