WATERVLIET - Mary M. Denue Drescher, 80, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Troy on October 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Eileen Corbett Denue.
Mary was a graduate of the Sacred Heart of Mary School, attended Catholic Central High School for her freshman year and graduated from Watervliet High School, class of 1949. She later graduated from the Brady School of Nursing in Albany in 1950.
After graduating from nursing school, Mary was employed at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy as a child's nurse. Following her marriage, she raised her family and then returned to work as a home health aide for many years.
Throughout her life, Mary loved taking care of others and was a loyal friend to many. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially attending grandparents' events at St. Ambrose and Boght Hills Schools. She was the "Best Nana," and her children and grandchildren adored her.
Mary was an incredibly kind person who will be remembered most for her faithfulness, honesty and compassion.
She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and presently was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Mary had a strong faith in our Lord Jesus and participated in many prayer groups. She also enjoyed watching Mother Angelica every Tuesday and Saturday night.
She was the wife of the late Charles A. Drescher, devoted mother of Donna M. (Jake) Watson of Latham and the late Paul J. (Michele Barton) Drescher, adored grandmother of Kirstyn, Jacob, Ryan and Ethan Watson, Joseph and Daniel Drescher, cousin of Virginia (Phillip) Mahar and John Wise both of Watervliet and the late Florence Wise.
The funeral will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th St. and 7th Ave., Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
