Troy - Mary O'Connor Gibbs, 95, of Troy died September 7, 2013 at Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary O'Connor and the wife of the late John L. Gibbs. She was a graduate of Vincentian Institute in Albany. Mary had been employed at Woolworth's until the time of her marriage when she became a homemaker. At age 50, she returned to work as Director of Activities for Leisure Arms Health Related facility in Troy. She had been a member of the former St. Francis de Sales Church and was an avid gardener, traveler and square dancer. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary is survived by her children, Eileen (Brian) Hesch, John (Kate) Gibbs, James (Anita) Gibbs, and Kathleen (David) Snyder; eight grandchildren, Kristen (Roger) Esposito, James (Linda) Hesch, David (Kate) Hesch, T.J. (Stephanie) Snyder, Sarah Chimino- Gibbs (Dan Chimino), Roddy Gibbs, and Delia and Delaney Gibbs; six great grandchildren, Natalie, Ryan, Connor and Addison Hesch and Peyton and Mattingly Snyder; a sister-in-law, Patricia O'Connor; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, John (Florence), James, Thomas, and Joseph O'Connor; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Ruth Gibbs. The family wishes to thank the staff of A3 at Van Rensselaer Manor for their loving and compassionate care of Mary. The funeral will be on Wednesday at 8:30 am from the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Ave. at Parkview Ct., Troy and at 9:30 am at St. Jude's Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Karen L. Mosseau Fund that benefits patients of the Samaritan Hospital Cancer Center in care of Northeast Health Foundation, 2224 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY 12180.
