Matthew P. Wilkolaski Obituary
COHOES - Matthew Paul Wilkolaski, 89, of Cohoes went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the VA Stratton Medical Center/Hospice in Albany after a brief illness.
Matt was born in Cohoes and was the son of the late Walter and Mary Faron Wilkolaski and beloved husband of Sandra Luce Wilkolaski of Cohoes and the late Winnie Cressey-Stay.
Matt was a graduate of Emmaus Bible College in Montreal, Canada.
He came to know his Savior while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Matt loved memorizing scripture and was very knowledgeable.
He worked for General Electric and retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1986.
During his life, he attended The Salvation Army and Waterford Wesleyan Church.
Matt was a wonderful, Godly man and was loved by family and friends.
He loved gardening and church-related activities.
His family was the center of his life, especially the children. He treasured their love.
Matt was a member of E.T. Ruane American Legion Post in Cohoes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Phylis Stievater of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mary Jane (Arlo) Long-Fisher of Rochester, N.H., and Marsha (Bernie) Virkler-Stanford of Glenfield, N.Y.; his stepson, Lee Penalver of Florida; 14 adored grandchildren; several cherished great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughters, Shirley M. Einhorn and Jean A. Wells.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home Ltd., 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, with the Rev. Paul Barna, pastor of Waterford Wesleyan Church, officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 8, at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will be at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
In lieu of flowers and spiritual bouquets, Matt's family has requested memorial donations be made to the VA Stratton Medical Center/Hospice, 113 Holland Ave., Albany NY 12208; or to Waterford Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 146, Waterford NY 12188.
