Robert G. Herrington WATERVLIET – Robert G. “Horse” Herrington, 62, died peacefully Monday evening, May 20, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Troy on May 27, 1950, he was the son of the late George C. and Mary J. Comproski Herrington. Bob attended Sacred Heart of Mary School and was a 1968 graduate of Watervliet High School. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked briefly at Boyd's Printing Co. in Albany with his father. He later was a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal for over 20 years before retiring almost 20 years ago. Bob was also a bartender at Bee Cee's Tavern and the Watervliet Tavern both in Port Schuyler in Watervliet. “Horse” could often be seen jogging or walking the Arsenal Wall in his trademark shorts and he played every year in the “Bruce's Bowl” football game which was held in Watervliet at the Civic Center Field from 1972-1981 for patrons of Bruce's Tavern. It has been said that Horse might have been the most faithful New York Jets football fan in Watervliet. He also was a fan of the New York Yankees. Bob is survived by his loving sisters, Dianne (David) Clement of Poestenkill, Nancy (Jack) Jones of Cohoes and Mary (Peter) Rzezniczak of Watervliet, seven beloved nieces, Lori, Jacqueline, Karin, Melissa, Emily, Amy and Lisa, and his faithful dog, “Whatever”. Relatives and friends may attend his graveside service on Friday at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Delatour Road, Latham. There are no calling hours.
