Margaret (Mackey) Bruno Obituary
Margaret (Mackey) Bruno, 93, of Middletown Road passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Born in Watervliet on October 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Mackey and Margaret Hogan Mackey. She was raised in Watervliet and attended Catholic Central High School.
After Pearl Harbor, she enlisted in the Woman's Army Air Corps and served at Eglin Field during World War II. She remembered the B25 crews practicing for the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo.
On September 24, 1949, she married Nicholas J. Bruno Sr. and was married for 56 years.
Margaret was a real estate agent, retiring at age 76. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, boating and time spent with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Bruno Rella (Husband Robert) of Chesapeake, Va., and Nicholas Bruno (Wife Carol) of Waterford, N.Y.; and three grandsons, Alexander Bruno, Brian Rella and Justin Rella.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas J. Bruno Sr., and two brothers and one sister, John Mackey of Watervliet, Charles Mackey of Troy and Jean Bostick of Watervliet.
She is survived by one older sister, Helen Shellard Mackey of Watervliet.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the funeral home.
