Dorothy A. Higgitt-Horton LATHAM - Dorothy Antoinette Higgitt-Horton, age 73, of Hillcrest Rd., Latham, NY and of Lake Havasu City, AZ, peacefully entered into eternal life in the loving comfort and care of her children on May 7, 2014 at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Elizabeth P. “Betty” Salway and was the wife of the late Paul J. Higgitt, Sr. and the late Howard W. Horton. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1959. Dorothy was a waitress at the 76 Diner in Latham for over twenty years and along with her husband Paul Higgitt, owned and operated the renowned Hamburger Haven in Lansingburgh. Dorothy was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Parish. She was a member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Veterans of Lansingburgh, Inc., inspired by her husbands’ and two sons service to their country of which she was extremely proud. She had been active in the Girl Scouts, was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1051 and bowled at Alpha Lanes Bowling League. Dorothy’s most cherished thing in life was her family. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and trying her luck at the casinos. She held the title of “Family Historian”. Dorothy will be remembered not only for her love and generosity but also her infectious smile and her amazing memory. Devoted mother of Paul Jerome “PJ” (Lisa) Higgitt of Lansingburgh, David Michael (Debbie) Higgitt of East Greenbush and Mary (Arthur) Gavitt of Lansingburgh; sister of Thomas (Marion) Salway of Houston, TX, Paul Salway of Troy, Grace (Jim) Graziane of Cohoes, Arlene (Robert) Mosher of Latham, Brian Salway of Waterford and the late Arthur, William (Sharon), Gordon and Robert Salway who is survived by his wife Jean of Watervliet; cherished grandmother of Nichole (fiancé Jason Weber) Higgitt, Megan and Jenna Higgitt, Jyllian (Joseph) Wiley, Jacquelynn (Justin) McGrath, David Higgitt, Jr., Charlene (Eddie) Trotter, Caitlin Gavitt and Arthur H. Gavitt, Jr.; great grandmother of Kelceye McGrath, Jamison McGrath, Dylan Wiley, Kaylee Haffner, Madigan Higgitt, Madison Trotter, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 8:45 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. (corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh, thence to St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh where at 9:30 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, Lansingburgh. Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the Veterans of Lansingburgh, Inc., 777 First Ave, Troy, NY 12182, in memory of Dorothy.
