Kelly, Ruth A. WATERFORD – Ruth A. (Powers) Kelly, 89, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Ruth was born in Troy on September 16, 1924 to Agnes R. Powers and James J. Powers, and was the first of four children. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, Class of 1942. She was married to Joseph F. Kelly of Troy in 1946 until his death in 1973. Ruth is the loving, devoted mother of three children Sue (Carol ) of Hudson NY , Marjorie of Waterford ,NY and Joe (Rebecca) Kelly of Washington DC and the grandmother of Nicholas and Sean Kelly, also of Washington DC . For 25 years Ruth worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, Taxpayer Assistance Program, where she retired as Records Manager in 1989 and was a past-President of the Tax Alumni Association. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in South Troy and past-President of the St. Joseph’s School PTA. In her retirement years she served as a literacy volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of Greater Rensselaer County. She enjoyed many memorable times with her classmates and friends from Catholic High and travels to Ireland with family. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph F. Kelly, her mother Agnes R. Powers, her father James J. Powers, her sister Marion Dinan, and her brother James Powers. Ruth is survived by her sister Marjorie Powers, PHD, of Albany and sister-in-law Betty Powers of Florida as well as cousins, nephews and nieces. Ruth had many wonderful caregivers during her last few years of life, especially Sheila Webb, Kim Jones ,Jenny Sry Larrick and Melba Crebbs . The family wishes to thank the Community Hospice of Saratoga County for its care. Leahy Funeral home 336 Third Street and at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church in Troy where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7PM Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery Troy
