Ronald J. Dukes Troy - Ronald J. “Cooper” Dukes, 65, of Ninth St., beloved husband of 41 years of Winnie M. Keels Dukes of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded and in the loving comfort and care of his family on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Greeleyville, SC, he is the son of Junior and Thomasena Joe Dukes of Troy. He was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1967, earned his Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College, his Paralegal Degree from Fulton Montgomery Community College, his BA is Criminal Science from The Sage Colleges and was currently pursuing his Master’s in Criminal Science at SUNY Albany. Mr. Dukes retired from General Electric in Schenectady and had previously been employed by the New York State Thruway, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Tek-Hughes and the former A&W Restaurant in Troy. He was an active member of the Fifth Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church in Troy where he served as Chairman of the Student Board, was a Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the Christian Board Lay Council, the Men’s Chorus, the Building Fund, the Voices and Combined Choirs, and was a Preacher Steward. Mr. Dukes was also an avid sports enthusiast. He was a diehard New York Yankees fan and also a fan of both the New York Knicks and New York Jets. Beloved husband of Winnie, devoted father of Michelle Dukes of Upper Marlboro, MD, Rahman (Rebecca) Dukes of Queens, NY and Shaneaka Dukes of Troy, loving son of Junior and Thomasena, dear brother of John (Dorothy) Dukes and Debra Dukes both of Troy, cherished grandfather of Jakari, Jasier, Rahsaan, Rahsyiah, Robert and Raymond, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Avenue in Troy. The funeral service will be celebrated in Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. and followed by interment in Graceland Cemetery in Albany. The Dukes family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the 4th Floor at Samaritan Hospital, as well as to the family, friends and community for their caring love and assistance shown to them.
