London: Ruud and I JUST found out about Rebecca's passing, almost four years after the fact, and it was a very sad shock. We couldn't have asked for better neighbors than you and Rebecca. She was such a kind person, and so much fun to talk to whenever we saw her. I wish we had not lost touch after we all left Michigan Ave.! The online tributes to Rebecca are amazing...She must have been a wonderful teacher. Our deepest condolences to you, your daughter and grandchildren, and all of the Kinch family. It has been three years and I still cant believe you are gone. I still cant believe that there will never be another akward 12 year old to walk into that choir room unsure if they still enjoyed singing only for you to make them believe again. You really made us feel the music made us love the music. I will never forget that. You were my Idol and just knowing you for even a few years was a blessing. My hope is that my children will find a teacher that inspires them as much as you inspired me and hundreds of other kids who had the pleasure to sit in your choir room. I was shocked and saddened hearing the news of Rebecca's passing. Rebbeca had both our son Dan and daughter Lindsey in her choir group years ago. My children are both grown adults now but we remember attending all the music specials at the school years ago. My family loved attending the music concerts since they were the best!! She has made an impression on every Lansingburgh student who has ever had her as a teacher. She will continue doing her job in heaven singing with the angels.

We first met Mrs. Shepherd when we moved to Lansingburgh in 2006 and our sons enrolled in school here. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Soundwaves. I saw a teacher who was passionate about what she did and the respect that everyone had for her. I will always remember her explaining concert etiquette and how she would get everyone quiet for performances. She will be greatly missed, but it is only temporary. We will see her again in heaven. Heaven has a new choir director. RIP Mrs. Shepherd. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all that knew her. She had an infectious smile, and I am thankful that I was able to have been acquainted with her through the Burgh schools.

Rebecca, I still remember the first time I met you, when you had just arrived at the Burgh. What a small world it was when we realized that I had gone to college with Kathy. We were both young and just starting out in our teaching careers. You had so much enthusiasm and you never lost that. Rebecca, there is no one like you. I loved watching the Soundwaves perform and watching how the kids respected you. My fondest high school memories are of the weekend hours spent building and painting stage sets, listening to music, laughing and talking with Miss Kinch, Miss Valenti, and the other drama club students who were there to help out. She made us feel welcome, part of a special team, as if we were doing something bigger than ourselves. And we were. Those school plays brought in huge, appreciative crowds, and we were all proud to be part of something that made others so happy. Her passion and dedication, and her sense of humor, all existed in a spotlight to me, as if she stood alone on the stage, even while she did everything in her power to boost her students and set their own passion for music aflame. She cared deeply about the job getting done right, and that is something that has stuck with me ever since. I am grateful for those moments, and for these memories, that have shaped who I am. She was a star for so many, for so long, but not long enough. All my love and deepest sympathy to her family.

I can honestly say that Rebecca was my favorite teacher at Lansingburgh. Her heart and passion for the music always shone through no matter if it was a choir rehearsal, concert, or in a musical that we did. She taught me to always think that I am the best at what I am doing, because if I did, I am always trying my hardest. I will never forget when she told us in choir rehearsal "I don't care if you make a mistake, just do it loudly, that way I know you are trying." I hope she realized the legacy that she left not only on me, but the students that came before and after. The teacher that most epitomized the Lansingburgh spirit of community and hard work, will forever be missed.
