Joseph E. Tracy Obituary
TRACEY, JOSEPH WATERVLIET - Joseph E. Tracey, 78, died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with his loving family at his side. Born in Troy on March 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Dennis and Margaret McAvoy Tracey. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, Joe was employed as a crane operator by the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Co. and later Al Tech Specialty Steel for 42 years before retiring in 1994. Joe loved to play basketball and was known as the "Cat" playing ball at the Troy YMCA, the Watervliet Civic Center and Brotherhood Park in Watervliet. He made famous the half court hook shot. Joe was a diehard New York Yankee, New York Giants, Boston Celtics and Notre Dame sports fan. He loved his family and all of his grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of Frances DeCrescenzo Mazzariello Tracey, Stepfather and "Pop" of John (Kathy) Mazzariello of Watervliet and Thomas (Denise) Mazzariello of Latham, Loving brother of Betty, Leo "Homer" and Jimmy Tracey all of Watervliet, Raymond (Jean) Tracey of Latham and the late Walter and Dennis "Earl" Tracey, Proud Poppy of John (Kelli) Mazzariello, III, Matthew (Jennifer) Mazzariello, Katie (Kevin) Kilgallon, Thomas Mazzariello, Danielle (Robert) Wattsman, Nicole (Nicholas) Casale, Jessica (Tim LaValley) Mazzariello, Great Poppy of Anthony, Ryan, Blake, Braeden, Kristin and Noah, Uncle of Mary Ann (Terence) Howe, Raymond (Nitza) Tracey and Trish (David) Fairbairn, Great uncle of Shanna, Ryan and Tracey Howe, Raymond and Erin Tracey. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:45 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9:30 am at St. Anthony's Shrine Church, Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 pm. Contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Shrine Church, 28 State Street, Troy, NY 12180. Special thanks to the Watervliet Fire Dept. and Samaritan Hospital ICU for the wonderful care given to Joe and also to Father Mario Julian, OFM and Brother Philip Hira, OFM for all the prayers and support given to our family.
