KARWIEL, GRACE WATERVLIET - Grace Gardner Karwiel, 90, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Grafton, daughter of the late Clayton and Nellie Ward Gardner, she resided in Green Island for 18 years before moving to Watervliet in 1978. Grace had been employed as a machine operator for 15 years at the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring in 1984. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Troy and had been a communicant of the former St. Joseph's Church in Green Island. Grace was a member of the Watervliet Senior Citizens and had been involved in the Green Island Little League many years ago. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to Maine but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She is the beloved wife of Joseph V. Karwiel; loving mother of James and Duane Warrington of Troy, Matthew (Denise) Karwiel of Watervliet, Stephen (Laurie) Karwiel of Green Island and the late Howard Warrington; devoted grandmother of Scott, Christopher, Alyssa and Matthew Karwiel, Duane, James, Tammy, Michael and Tucker Warrington and Tina Gravelle; sister of Allyn Gardner and the late Marion Goodermote, Lorna Champine, Howard, Ward and Francis Gardner; and sister in law of Catherine Gardner of Kinderhook. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Funeral from the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Friday at 9:00 am and from St. Anthony's Church in Troy at 9:30 am. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at VanRensselaer Manor for the loving and compassionate care given to Grace.
