DAVIS JR., THOMAS SCHAGHTICOKE - Thomas E. Davis, Jr. of Schaghticoke, New York passed away April 15, 2011 . He was born in 1934, in Scranton, PA. He moved to Westbury, NY in 1948 and graduated from Westbury H S in 1952. He served in the U. S. Air Force (1954-56). He married M. Hope (Wilson) Davis in 1954. He earned his Bachelor's (BS) degree from Hofstra University, a Master's (MS) degree from Albany State University and a Doctorate of Education (EdD) from Nova SE University. Tom taught at Berne Knox H S then Burnt Hills H S. He was principal and guidance counselor at the Newcomb C S (1961 - 1962). He was H S principal at Hoosic Valley C S then Superintendent (1963-1976). In 1976 he became Superintendent of Averill Park C S. He retired in 1989. Tom received his private pilot's license and flew his own plane(s) for about 25 years. He was a member of pilot's organizations - AOPA and Quiet Birdmen in Albany, NY and Jackson, Wyoming. In 1989 he moved to Alpine, then Etna, WY. Tom greatly enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Tom was an active member in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was instrumental in starting a Mule Deer Foundation Committee in Star Valley, WY. He taught Hunter Safety classes in WY. Tom was a member of the Schaghticoke Victor Lodge No. 680 and the Alpine, Wyoming American Legion, the Hoosic Valley Community Church, Sand Lake Kiwanis, Newcomb Sportsman Club and the NRA. Most important to Tom was his family. He is survived by his wife, Hope, of 56 years, three children - Rowanne D. Fane(Warren) Thomas E. Davis, 3rd and Sandra Kay Akin(Glenn) - three grandchildren, Chelsea K. Akin, Warren T. Fane, and Thomas B. Akin, also his sister, Nancy Lee Bennett and several nieces and nephews of the Church Hill, MD area. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas E. Davis and Anne L.(Healy) Davis of Church Hill, MD. Relatives and friends may call from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, Rt. 40, Schaghticoke. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 AM at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the Elmwood Cemetery following services.
