REED, PAULINE COHOES - Reed, Pauline B. (Wolanin) of Cohoes. It is with sadness that we say good-by to our wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Pauline died May 20, 2011 surrounded by her family at Samaritan Hospital, Troy. She was born July 23, 1921 , she was the loving daughter of the late Francis and Katherine (Pukic) Wolanin and wife of 62 years to John Gillette Reed. Pauline was a lifelong resident of Cohoes residing in the home she was raised in. She was a graduate of Cohoes High School and worked as a secretary at Bendix, General Electric, Cohoes Manufacturing and Smith Electric. She was a communicant at St. Michael's Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society, as well as St. Bernard's Church for many years. She was also a member of the Cohoes Columbiettes. Through her life Pauline found great joy in many things including gardening, playing cards, sewing, her granddaughter's dog Charlie and great friends as well as being a wonderfully inventive cook and baker. But Pauline's greatest passion and reward was caring for her family that she loved so dearly. Pauline took pride in providing for her family, which she started doing at a young age. At 16 her mother died suddenly leaving her to take the role of mother to her three younger brothers. In 1946 she lost her youngest brother Edward when he was killed during his tour of duty in the Navy. This loss was difficult to bear and remained so throughout her years. Pauline's priority was to give her children the best opportunities for their future. As a grandmother and aunt Pauline provide in very pleasant ways, cakes, quips, honest advice and unconditional love. Pauline was deeply loved in return, most of all by her husband Jack Reed. She leaves a void for all those whose lives she touched. In addition to her husband Pauline is survived by her devoted children, daughter Patti A. (Reed) Buchanan and husband Thomas of Northville, MI, and son Jack M.
