Jane F. Sheffer TROY - Jane F. (Robertson) Sheffer, 82, a longtime resident of Phillips Road in Pittstown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy following a long illness. Born in Troy, April 20, 1930, Mrs. Sheffer was the daughter of the late William W. Robertson and the late Helen (Alderman) Robertson-Viall, and the wife of over 51 years of the late Mason A. Sheffer who predeceased her on March 14, 2001. Mrs. Sheffer was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, “Class of 1948”. For 25 years, she was employed as clerk in the personnel department of the former Montgomery Ward Company in Menands and more recently for several years, as a secretary by the former Garden Way Manufacturing Company in Troy. She retired in 1994. From 1972 until it's closure in 2007, Mrs. Sheffer was a communicant, a lector and active on the Altar Rosary Society of the former St. George Roman Catholic Church in Pittstown. Additionally she was a former member of both the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps and the local Home Bureau. In her quiet time she enjoyed the hobbies of vegetable and flower gardening, crocheting and playing bingo. Mrs. Sheffer is survived by two daughters, Patricia Duff of Troy, and Nancy (Richard) Nusca of Speigletown, a daughter-in-law, Kathy Sheffer of Brunswick, 11 grandchildren, James Duff Jr., Matthew Duff, Sean Duff, Colleen Duff and Michael Duff, Julie Bourke, Beth Nusca, Erik Nusca, Chad Sheffer, Kimberly Hayes and Robert D. Sheffer and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, a son, the late Robert P. Sheffer and a brother, William G. Robertson also predeceased her. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 12:15 P.M., at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown with Fr. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Warren Cemetery in Boyntonville. Relatives and friends are invite to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until noon prior to the service. At the request of the family, memorial contributions if desired may be made to either the Pittstown United Methodist Church Women's Group, 57 Old State Route 7, Valley Falls, NY 12185 or to the in memory of Jane F. Sheffer.
