William H. “Smitty” Smith, Jr. SPEIGLETOWN - William H. “Smitty” Smith, Jr., 82 of Speigletown, beloved husband of Hildegard Schmidt Smith of Speigletown, died on Saturday, December 29, 2012. Born and educated in Albany, he was the son of the late William H. and Emma G. Garhartt Smith, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1948 to 1962 and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal (2d Award). Smitty owned and operated the Rustic Barn in Speigletown for the past twenty years. He retired from Passanno Paints in Watervliet where he had been Plant Manager. He was an avid outdoorsman and a wild game butcher. Beloved husband of Hildegard of Speigletown, devoted father of Rita (Robert) Brenenstuhl of Johnsonville and the late Henry Smith, brother of Richard and Thomas Smith, cherished grandfather of Robert, Jason and Ashley Brenenstuhl and Edgar, Michael, Cindy and Jason Smith, also survived by several great grandchildren, one great- great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the White-Sanvidge Funeral Home, 58 Leversee Road (RT-40 in Speigletown) Troy, NY 12182 on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Stephen L. Cordes, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Speigletown. Spring interment with military honors will be held in the Tomhannock Cemetery, Pittstown.
