James P. Brennan TROY - James P. Brennan, 85, of Troy passed into eternal rest on Thursday morning June 13, 2013 at The Albany Medical Center. Born in Troy Jim was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Winkelman Brennan and loving and devoted husband of Marie Beaudoin Brennan of Troy. As a youth ,he was a member of the Shadrack Club .He attended Catholic Central high School in Troy and enlisted in the United States Navy where he trained at the Naval Training Station at Sampson NY. He was then assigned to the USS Mendocino in the Asiatic/Pacific campaign. He also served on the PC1213. After his honorable discharge he acquired employment at Cluett Peabody Co. and Montgomery Ward . In September 1947 he was hired by Aird-Don Co. in Troy ,where he met his wife Marie. They were married on June 17, 1950 in the Church of St. Jean Baptiste .They had five children .He was associated with the Bragel Taxi Company and in 1961 was appointed to the Troy Post Office as a clerk .He retained that position until 1983 when he became Officer in Charge of the Green Island Post Office until his retirement in 1992. In the course of his many years working for the postal system he has received many commendations and service awards. He was an active member of the Troy Knights of Columbus and was elected to several officer positions by his peers. He worked bingo for about 20 years .After the Troy Council closed he transferred to Watervliet and then to Waterford #237 where he is currently a member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 0237and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Troy In addition to his loving wife Marie , he is survived by his four children Anne Marie (Wayne) Carrozza of Watervliet, Deacon Joseph (Cathryn) Brennan of Rotterdam, Robert (Suzanne) Brennan of Ballston Spa, Jeanne (Jeffery) Gibson of Troy and was pre-deceased by his son Fr. J. Gregory Brennan OFM. Jim is also survived by his ten grandchildren Deyette (Joseph) Koyon of Watervliet, Chad (Stephanie) Carrozza of Alabaster AL., Patrick Carrozza of Watervliet, Valerie Sweet of Guilderland, Joseph (Katty) Brennan of Canaan CT., Rachel Brennan of ElPaso TX., Victoria Chamberlain of Ballston Spa, Matthew Brennan of Ballston Spa, Cassandra (Cameron) Lee of Troy and Jeffery (Tiffany) Gibson of Troy. He is also survived by nine great – grandchildren Jeffery Gibson, Anthony Reynolds, Isabelle and Nathan Carrozza, Joseph and Daniela Brennan, Charlei and Anya DeGroff and Joseph David Koyon III. Jim is also survived by his sister- in –law Ada Brennan of Latham and several nieces and nephews. He was pre- deceased by his brothers John , Joseph ,Paul and Charles and his sisters Bertha Manning and Alice Kelly. The funeral service for Jim will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:45 am from The Wm. Leahy Funeral home 336 Third Street Troy and at 9:30 am at St. Joseph's Church in Troy where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Monday from 3-7PM Interment Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville NY Contribution's in Jim's memory may be made to the restoration fund of St. Joseph's Church 416 Third Street Troy NY 12180.
