Gladys Canty Brown TROY - Gladys Canty Brown after a long and courageous battle of afflictions, Gladys Brown passed peacefully into eternal rest at the Diamond Hill Nursing Facility, Troy, NY, Sunday, June 23, 2013. Gladys Roberta Canty Brown, 81, the daughter of the late Robert and Lucille Canty was born May 5, 1932 in Greeleyville, SC. Gladys was educated in the Williamsburg County School System where she was an avid basketball player. After relocating to Troy, NY in 1955, Gladys was employed by the Van Rensselaer Manor retiring after 35 years of service. Gladys was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where she served faithfully in several of the church choirs, the Missionary Ministry and cherished member of the culinary staff. Gladys is survived by 2 sons, Lee Odus (Leona) Brown, Sr. and William (Jayne) Brown Sr.; and a daughter, Josephine (Van) Suggs; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie (Pearl); 2 sisters, Thomasina and Lucille Rebecca Canty; 2 aunts, Virginia and Edith Carter of Baltimore, Maryland, a host of other relatives and many friends. Services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 5th Avenue, Troy, NY. Calling hours will be 9-11 AM at the Church. Dr. Eric S. Shaw Officiating. Interment, Graceland Cemetery, Delaware Avenue, Albany, NY.
