Earl Quackenbush Obituary
Earl Quackenbush Jr. TROY - Earl Quackenbush, Jr., 87, Eighth Avenue resident, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Halfmoon, he was the son of the late Earl Quackenbush, Sr. and Camilla Jensen Quackenbush and beloved husband of the late Ruth Johansen Quackenbush who died in 1998. Raised and educated in Lansingburgh, he was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. Mr. Quackenbush served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a nose gunner, B-24 Liberator, based in England flying bombing missions over Germany. He worked 18 years as a machinist and machine shop foreman at the Ludlow Valve Plant in Troy and 29 years as a tool room machinist for the Ford Motor Company in Green Island, retiring when the plant closed. Earl was an active member of the Jerusalem Masonic Lodge 355, American Legion Post 1881, 8th Air Force Historical Society, the Second Air Division and Brunswick Elks Lodge #2556. Survivors include his son, Albert E. Quackenbush (Patricia) of Sand Lake; three daughters, Sandra Horton of Troy, Cheryl Hayden (Brian) of Troy, Karen Nadeau (Bernie) of Schenectady; eleven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a sister Doris Flanigan, companion Dorothea Garneau, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved pet Molly. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh with Rev. Trygve C. Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
