Emmott “Gus” DeMars Sr. MELROSE – Emmott “Gus” DeMars Sr., 82, of Melrose passed peacefully on July 29th with his loving companion of 37 years, Shirley Kelly by his side. Born in Troy he was the son of the late Augustus and Doris Crandall DeMars. Gus was a Korean War veteran who served from 1951 to 1954 as a Tech Sgt. in the Armor Division. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh , a member of the Charles Walden Post American Legion 731 of Schaghticoke, the 28th Infantry Division Association and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1948 of Clifton Park/Halfmoon, a lifetime member of the North Troy Stag Rod and Gun Club, an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. He was an original member of 38 years with the Uncle Sam Parade Committee, you could see Gus proudly driving his Red 1965 Cadillac convertible in the Lansingburgh Memorial Day Parade, Uncle Sam Birthday Parade, Town of Schaghticoke Memorial Day Parade, Troy Flag Day Parade, Pittstown Bicentennial Parade and the Veterans Day Parade in Albany. Gus was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year from the Uncle Sam Committee. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his children, JoAnn O'Brian, Bonnie Hoag (John), John DeMars, Gus DeMars Jr., Joe DeMars (Ann), Randy DeMars, Theresa St. Laurent, Matt DeMars (Tami), Grandchildren, Kevin, Chris (Amy), Brandi (Gary), John Jr. (Jessica), TJ, Rachelle, Brittney, Rick, Christian, Ashley (Rob), Johnny, Derrick, Rachel and Matt, great grandchildren, Andrew, Robbie, Olivia, Logan, Ryan, Trinity and Lily, Shirleys children, Tom Kelly (Shawn), Linda Meissner (Bill), Melanie Uruskyj (Chuck Lewis), Kathleen Morgan (Mike), grandchildren, Tom Kelly (Tori), Shane Kelly (Kayla), Caroline Kelly (Sean) Dayna Cebel (late Ian Kelly), Eric Meissner (Katie), Michael Morgan and Nicole Morgan and great grandchild Liam Kelly, half brother, Harold “Bonnie” Crandall Sr. (Jane), half sister Doris Crandall and his precious niece Doris (Hank). He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey DeMars and sister Grace DeMars. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who took such good care of Gus. Friends are invited to the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home 870 Second Avenue (124th & 125th Streets) in Lansingburgh on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm. Cremation will be at the Gardner Earl Memorial Crematorium in the Oakwood Cemetery. Funeral service in the Funeral Home on TUESDAY August 6th at 10am with burial in the Gerald BH Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
