Eileen R Gentlemen Dougherty WYNANTSKILL - Eileen R Gentlemen Dougherty, age 84, beloved wife of the late John J Dougherty Jr. who passed November 24, 2010, died on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Jack Gentlemen and Gertrude Devery Schmerhorn. She attended Troy schools. Eileen was a lifetime resident of Troy, before moving to Wynantskill, to live with her daughter and son-in-law. In her younger years, Eileen was employed at Cluett & Peabody as a keyboard operator. For many years she worked at the polls as an elections inspector in the 13th ward of Troy. She volunteered for many years, in the 90's, as a treasurer of the North Central Neighborhood Association. She enjoyed cooking, decorating for the holidays and backyard barbeques with family and friends. Everyone could not resist “Eileen's Beans”. Jack & Eileen shared 60 years of devoted marriage. The memories of Eileen and Jack bringing rhythm & music with their jitter bug & singing tunes, on their player piano, will always be remembered. Eileen was very enthusiastic and proud of the accomplishments of her granddaughter and great-grandchildren's achievements. The brightness of her day was her grandson-in-law's daily greet of hugs. There was a smile from ear to ear. Her life of memories is of laughter and kindness to ALL! Eileen was survived by her daughter Nancy (Tim) Sorensen, her loving granddaughter Kelly (Bill) Haupt and the joy of her life, her great-grandchildren Billy and Kortney Haupt, all from Wynantskill, her brother-in-law, Thomas (Geraldine) Dougherty, her sister-in-laws, Dorothy Dougherty and Yvonne Dougherty and her goddaughter, Colleen Dougherty. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Ned, Kenneth, Deborah, Jack, Kathy, Joe, Thomas, Sandra, Linda, Arnold, Lori, Tommy, John and Diane, her cousins, Kathryn Ann, Kyran and Mary Elizabeth Devery, her many great nieces and nephew and her special friend Tina Rehn, who gave Eileen much care and support. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Rita Fogarty, Jean Riley, Ned Dougherty and Daniel Dougherty. She will be greatly missed by her canine friend, Major. Eileen's Family would like to thank the North Greenbush Ambulance (Erin & Austin), North Greenbush Police Officer Doug Pinzer and neighbors, Eileen & Peter for their help in our time of need. There are no calling hours. A private inurnment, with family and friends, for Eileen and Jack, will be planned for a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
