Teresa C. Barber CICERO - Teresa C. Barber, 86, a longtime resident of Route 7, Brunswick, died peacefully, Monday, September 2, 2013, at her daughter's Cicero home, following a short illness. Born in Troy, January 29, 1927, Mrs. Barber was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Josephine (Gerardo) Capra and for over 64 years, the wife of the late Bernard E. Barber Sr. who predeceased her October 5, 2011. Teresa and Bernie were married at St. Francis DeSales Church in Troy on April 6, 1947. Mrs. Barber was a graduate of Troy High School and the former Troy Business College. As a young woman she was employed for 20 years by the former National Automotive Fiber Co. in Cohoes. After raising her family, she returned to the workforce as a bank teller at North Troy branch of the Marine Midland Bank where she worked for an additional 24 years. Mrs. Barber retired in 1989. In addition to her formal work career, Teresa worked for over 50 years as the “house bookkeeper” during many estate and consignment auctions for several local auctioneers. She was a member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church, the Brunswick Grange and Brunswick Home Bureau. In her quiet time she enjoyed the hobbies of crocheting, knitting, reading and attending auctions. Mrs. Barber is survived by four children, Joanna M. (Gary) Hotaling of Cicero, Bernard E. (Joann) Barber Jr. of South Carolina, Donald C. (Sandra) Barber of Kansas and Tracy L. (Shawn) Matazinsky of Pittstown, a brother, Albert J. (Janice) Capra of Missouri and a sister, Eva Holbritter of Pittstown, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at 1:15 PM at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown with Rev. Gaylord Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Norton Cemetery in Pittstown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM - 1:15 PM.
