SCHENECTADY -- Karen A. Shupe, 65, of Foster Avenue, and former Troy resident, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at her residence.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of Ellen Keary Shupe of Troy and the late Elmer B. Shupe Jr.
Raised and educated in Troy, she was a graduate of St. Augustine's School and Catholic Central High School, class of 1965. Karen was a clerk with the registrar's office at Hudson Valley Community College's continuing education department. She previously worked at Albany Medical Center's purchasing department.
Karen was a devoted mother and faithful friend, her presence will long remain with us and her exuberance for life and infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew her.
She was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, especially Terry Bradshaw.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, Ellen, include two daughters, Kristen Shears (Herb) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kelly Shupe of Port Ewen, N.Y.; three grandsons Evan Shears, Ethan Shears and Jackson Shears; two sisters, Ellen S. Bell (Jim) and Carolyn S. Fagan (Dennis), both of Troy; two nieces Samantha Fagan and Elaine Bell and one nephew Aaron Fagan, all of Troy; and her longtime companion, Ron Fowler of Schenectady.
Funeral services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home at the corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue in Lansingburgh, and at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at the Gardner Earl Crematorium on Oakwood Avenue in Troy.
Cremation will follow at the crematorium. Burial of cremains will be private.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
