Robert E. Degnan Sr., 86, formerly of Roberts Road, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Samaritan Hospital with his loving sons and family around him to be with his beautiful daughter, Franny.
Born in Troy he was the son of the late John T. and Erma West Degnan. He was a 1945 graduate of Catholic Central High School.
Bob retired from the engineering department at Bendix Corp. in 1986 after 36 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served at the end of World War II. Bob also was a well-known and longtime basketball official in the Capital District.
Bob has been and will continue to be devoted to his beautiful wife of 63 years Helen F. Deegan Degnan and his loving children Joseph M. Degnan (Kathy) of Troy and Robert E. Degnan Jr. (Kathy) of Mechanicville and the late Frances Ann Degnan. He is the brother of Sister Frances Patricia Degnan, CSJ, of Latham, John Degnan (Marge) of Troy, the late Francis and Richard Degnan and Rosemary Fandl. Bob is the proud grandfather of Patrick, Bryan, Katie, Todd and Brad Degnan and great-grandfather of Joey, Jane, Mikey and Kelly. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Route 32), Waterford and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
