Rick FINK Obituary

FINK, Rick owner of Hacienda del Sol, Zona 78 and Stray Dogs, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2017 lovingly surrounded by his wife, Nanci; his son, Kevin, his daughter-in-law, Alicynn; and his sister, Meg Walsh. Richard Paul Patrick Fink was born on November 27, 1950 in New Britain, Connecticut to Richard and Grace Fink. He is also survived by sisters, Eileen Binford, Regina Fink and devoted nieces and nephews. His life was one full of adventures, of strangers made into friends and of meals shared with those who were hungry. Rick exuded warmth, generosity and loved with an open heart. He leaves a legacy in the Tucson community and in the hospitality industry through his service on many national and local boards, and the innumerable charities he supported; but mostly, in the people whose hearts he touched. We ask that you raise your glass tonight and toast to a man that has shaped so many. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the University of Arizona Cancer Center or to the charity of your choice.

Nanci, Kevin and family, condolences on this sad anniversary. One of the great adventures I had with Rick at Conard High popped into my head the other day. With all the troubles in the world today, it was great to laugh at how our many antics escaped discipline. Take care.

After just watching a documentary on Cesar Ritz , the famous Hotelier , I went to search out Rick on Google , and was sadly surprised to see that Rick had Passed in 2017 . I first got to know him back in the 80s thru the Hacienda del Sol , where I worked with Rick organizing several weekend Oriental rug events in 2001 and 2003 . I remember him fondly as an extremely authentic person , generous of Spirit , with a big smile and friendly manner , always available to connect , even when he was very busy professionally , as he often was . I moved away from Tucson in 2004 and so lost contact with Rick and the Hacienda .
I send my belated Condolences to his Family , Friends and business partners there in Tucson .
R.I.P. dear Rick

Nanci and family, I am so saddened by your loss. I enjoyed teaching with you, Nanci, and I recently lost Johnny also. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. So maybe Johnny and Rick will meet and have a glass of wine and toast to the good times in Tucson! My condolences

Dear Nanci, Kevin, and family, I was so sorry to hear about Rick! When I first moved to Tucson back in the late 80's, we worked in the same office for a few months, and we enjoyed the Boston connection. He was a delight to work with--such a funny and kind man!

Please accept my deepest condolences and know you will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Rick:

I was shocked and saddened to learn that you have been taken from us. Sincere condolences to Nanci, Kevin, your sisters, extended family and friends.

You were simply amazing!

Time and distance were such a challenge but from the time we came of age together at Conard High in West Harford (so long ago), your friendship was a special privilege. What adventures! We certainly pushed many limits but you always had the vision and charm to rescue us from real trouble.

We went our separate ways, many years passed before we reunited in the 90's. We didn't miss a beat and my family so enjoyed meeting yours during our stays at the Hacienda, your wonderful creation.

Your charitable work so befit you: quite, dignified and effective.

I was just thinking of the last time we were together. Great red wine, cigars and talk into the late hours.

You will be missed and always remembered fondly.

Take care, dear friend. Hope we can tee it up again - somewhere in the cosmos.
