Sara Arroyo Obituary

Sara Arroyo 5/28/1917 - 10/14/2010 Sara Arroyo, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, died peacefully at home. Preceded in death by devoted husband of 69 years, Jess; sisters, Beatrice, Rebecca, Anna and Virginia. Survived by daughter, Ellie Jewell (Bill); grandsons, Tad Jewell (Juli) and Ellie, Bo, Emma; JJ Jewell (Jen) and Jack, Alex; granddaughter, Kelly Bale (Mark) and Devin, Austin; brothers, Albert Hernandez, William Hernandez; sisters, Caroline Nation and Lucille Hernandez; numerous nieces and nephews. Sara lived through the Great Depression. Following high school, she met and married Jess. While he served in World War II, she moved to Cheyenne, WY in 1942 and carried on the fight at home as a Rosie the Riveter. She later worked for the Veterans Administration and retired from the Internal Revenue Service. She loved playing bridge, gardening, and reading. Sara was most known for her caring and lovingly gentle nature. Jess and Sara relocated to Tucson in 2001. The family owes much gratitude to caregivers, Frieda, Colette, Susan and Karen; Odyssey Hospice staff, Dr. Nick Pazzi and staff, Dr. Randall Fehr and staff. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2010, 9:00 a.m., with Visitation one hour prior at 8:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle, 5150 N. Valley View. Interment following at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

Aunt Sara always reminded me of Grandma Anna. Petite woman but so full of life. I believe Mom and Aunt Sara are now resting in peace with Grandma and the rest of the siblings that have past. She will be missed.
