Sally Griswold Hansen

Sally Griswold Hansen Sally was born in Mason City, Iowa on January 21, 1943. She died at home in Tucson on August 1, 2013 after a brave and courageous battle with lung cancer. Sally is predeceased by her parents, Bob and Janan Griswold. She is survived by her partner, Diana Carpenter; her son, Zachary Hansen (Meg) and their son, Dean, of Sunnyvale, California; her daughter, Katherine Hansen (Jason), of Berkeley, California; her brother, Rob Griswold (Ellie), of Norman, Oklahoma and her nephew, Peter and her niece, Sarah. Sally graduated from the University of Iowa. She received her Masters of Library Science degree from the University of Arizona. For many years, she was the head librarian at Desert View High School in the Sunnyside School District. She was inducted into the Sunnyside Hall of Fame in 2012. Sally was an avid gardener and active participant in numerous sports, including hiking, swimming and tennis. She loved the annual downhill skiing trips she took with her brother. In recent years, Sally and Diana enjoyed traveling, especially to Russia, France, the Maritimes, and the Pacific Northwest. Sally especially treasured a recent cross-country trip with her daughter, and she loved spending time with her small grandson, Dean, and his dad. Sally was deeply grateful for the wonderful support and love shown to her by her community of friends and by her family during her challenging illness. Her family wishes to thank the TMC Hospice for their loving care toward the end of her life. Sally requested that there be no funeral service or flowers.
